Building an in-store appointment and guided shopping platform for a major e-commerce retailer
A custom mobile and backend platform enabling customers to book in-store appointments, meet personal shopping guides, and complete purchases via Square - across three environments.
Overview
A prominent e-commerce giant needed a comprehensive in-store experience platform that allowed customers to schedule appointments, be paired with personal shopping guides, and complete product selections and purchases using Square's payment infrastructure. iResponsive built and deployed the platform end-to-end, overcoming complex DevOps challenges including Jenkins pipeline automation, Firebase deployment management, Xcode compatibility issues, and multi-environment QA - shipping a production-ready iOS application and backend system.
Platforms & Technologies
The Challenge
The project presented multiple layers of technical complexity. The Jenkins pipeline was not correctly automating code builds from GitHub, blocking continuous integration. Payment capture during checkout had critical issues, and the invoicing process required reworking. Backend adjustments were needed for appointment slot management and private sales tax eligibility logic. Firebase link expiration was blocking new employee onboarding and QA testing access. An outdated Xcode version created compatibility conflicts with dependencies, and publishing the iPhone app to Firebase for distribution required resolving device allocation and build pipeline issues.
Our Approach
iResponsive resolved the Jenkins pipeline to correctly trigger automated builds from GitHub. A new Firebase link management strategy was implemented to ensure reliable access for new employees and QA teams throughout the project lifecycle. The platform was replicated across three separate environments to support structured, user-based QA testing. The GitHub codebase was upgraded to address Xcode version compatibility. Device reallocation issues were resolved to streamline the build process. Dependency management was stabilized with a forward-looking plan. Backend logic was updated for appointment slot booking, guide assignment, and tax eligibility. Payment capture and invoicing flows were rebuilt to work reliably with the Square integration.
The Outcome
The platform reached production successfully with all core features operational. Customers can book in-store appointments, be matched with personal shopping guides, browse and select products, and complete purchases through the guide's Square app. The checkout, payment confirmation, and invoicing process work end-to-end. Three QA environments ensured thorough testing across user roles before go-live.
